What We Need

Individually Wrapped Snacks and Drinks

These are for families at our agency during a forensic interview.

1st Responder Kits

Items to provide members of our multidisciplinary team (law enforcement, prosecuting attorney’s office and Child Protective Services). On a daily basis these individuals are exposed to challenging situations, sometimes leading to secondary trauma. These kits would be provided as a way to say “Thank you” and “We care”.

Examples of items to include could be:

  • Lip balm

  • GumMints

  • Life Savers

  • Hand Sanitizer

  • Etc.

Room Make-Over Kit

Sometimes the abuse occurs in the child’s bedroom. The bedding may be taken for evidence collection but sometimes it’s just too difficult for the child to see the same comforter/sheets where the abuse took place.

Examples to include:

  • Bedding set (comforter, sheets)

  • Decorative pillows to match

  • Gift card to Walmart, Meijer, Kohls

Hygiene Kits

Some items, though we may take them for granted, are “luxury” for others. Families having to choose between food and bills or medications and rent often leave these “must have” items off their grocery list. *BOTH male and female items are needed.

Examples to include:

  • Tampons/pads

  • Shampoo/conditioner

  • Body soap

  • Toothpaste/toothbrush

  • Deodorant

  • Etc.

Gift Cards

Taco Bell, McDonald’s or 7-Eleven for a Slurpee.

These cards may be provided to the child/family when they leave a forensic interview appointment. It is our hope a simple gesture like a gift card will bring a bit of happiness to the end of a difficult, brave conversation the child just completed at our agency. Additionally, self-care is essential following a difficult or traumatic situation.

Recommended amount for Taco Bell or McDonald’s gift card = $10

Court Day Kits

When a child has to attend court and face his/her alleged perpetrator it can be extremely stressful. These kits would be provided as a means to comfort.

Examples of items to include:

  • Stress ball

  • Fidget toy of some type

  • Water bottle

  • Small snack

  • Small travel tissue pack

  • Etc.

Birthday Kits

90% of all perpetrators are known and trusted by the victim and his/her family. Sometimes this perpetrator actually lived with them. When this happens, there is an immediate loss of income to the family because that individual is removed or placed in jail. A child’s birthday should be a happy time, a time to celebrate. We don’t want any child to miss out on something as simple as a birthday cake because of something someone else did to them.

Examples to include:

  • Cake mixes

  • Frosting

  • Brownie mix

  • Candles

  • Generic birthday cards

  • Birthday paper plates, napkins

  • General birthday decorations (i.e.; banner, table cover, etc.)

  • Etc.
